FORMER TEACHER - Essential Phone Apps


WhatsApp is the best way to send messages to Peter and to your fellow teachers. If you don’t already have it, you should download it onto your phone before you arrive in Slovakia.

Prior to arriving you should also install Google Translate. Be sure to download the Slovak package. Most of it only works when you have a wifi connection (or sim card) but the camera feature works without a data feed. It’s not perfect but it might be good enough to prevent you from ordering chicken when you want pork. When you’re online it works quite well to translate English into Slovak. You can take screen shots and save them on your phone if you won’t have a signal when you need them.

We recommend that you install the bus and train app. Go to the Google Play store and search on ‘Spojenie’. The logo for the app is shown below.

FORMER TEACHER - Leaving Early in June

For the past two years Peter has offered to have the native speakers leave before the end of June. The school is open until the last Thursday in June. This year the last day of school is Thursday, June 27th. Peter may want you to stay through the end of June next year. In 2019 he asked all three native speakers if they would like to skip the last two weeks. There's nothing wrong with departing early but you need to be aware of the possibility so that you can plan. Consider this when making your flight arrangements for the end of June.  Remember than if you leave early and opt to travel you will only be paid a half month's salary for June.  https://www.facebook.com/jskramar/
